The City of Brenham has a new animal services manager.

Megan Gray began her new role with the city on Monday.  Gray, who studied animal science at Stephen F. Austin State University, served for three years as the director of Lubbock Animal Services prior to coming to Brenham.  She has also worked for the nonprofit SPCA.

Gray says she wants to help the public better understand the role that Brenham Animal Services plays in the community.

Programs that Gray is looking to implement in Brenham include outdoor play groups to help enrichment and quality of life for animals.  She also plans to partner with other shelters to send some animals there, clearing out space at the local shelter while also giving other locations fully vetted pets for adoption.  In addition, she seeks to grow Brenham’s volunteer program and expand relationships with public safety departments, pet stores and veterinarians.

The animal services manager position was formerly held by Allison Harper and – on an interim basis – by Che’ Kamani.

Gray is no stranger to Brenham, saying she was drawn to the area after spending a summer working at Camp Blessing.
