CUBETTES RALLY TO BEAT COLLEGE STATION 2-1 ON TEACHER NIGHT
On a night where the players honored the teachers that have made a positive influence in their lives, the Brenham Cubette Softball Team rallied to defeat the College Station Lady Cougars 2-1 and move into a tie for second place in District 21-5A.
College Station got on the board in the top of the first inning. Chloe Ream singled, and then stole second. Bryce Clendenin reached on an error that allowed Ream to score what would turn out to be the only Lady Cougar run of the game as they took a 1-0 lead.
It would stay that way until the bottom of the sixth inning. Halle Scheel reached on an infield hit to the shortstop. Kaylyn Rodriguez laid down a sacrifice bunt. She was initially ruled out at first base, but after an umpire conference, the call was reversed, and she was ruled safe.
Annie Beckendorf popped up into foul territory. After the catch was made, Scheel and Rodriguez both tagged and moved up an additional base (Scheel to third and Rodriguez to second). Sarah Mabie then unloaded a two run triple off of the wall that brought home Scheel and Rodriguez with what would turn out to be the game tying and game winning runs.
Della Jasinski kept her team in the game the entire night as she went seven innings, allowing only the one unearned run, five hits, three HBPs, two walks, and eight strikeouts.
The Cubettes improved to 20-7 overall and 5-2 in district. Next up, they will travel to Magnolia on Friday night for a 6:30pm start time.
