SUSPICIOUS VAN IN BRENHAM WALMART PARKING LOT PROMPTS POLICE INVESTIGATION

A van sitting in the Walmart parking lot in Brenham caused some stir last week on social media and started a police investigation.

The social media poster claimed she was approached by a man who said they needed money for food.  The poster stated she gave the man cash before realizing that the person was part of a group of other men who were waiting around outside the store.

The poster, who said she had family still inside the store, told them to remain inside while she went to get their vehicle and pick them up at the front entrance.  The post then stated the group of men drove away quickly.  The vehicle pictured in the post was a black Ford E-350 van with the words “Candy For Kids” drawn in blue on the rear passenger side.

The Brenham Police Department said it was notified of the post on Friday by a caller, who said the subjects were asking for money and that a vehicle was still on location.  Police say their investigation found that there was nothing substantiating that the subjects in photos in the post and the vehicle that was also pictured were related to each other.

According to police, the officers that responded to the black van in the parking lot have seen the van in this same location for almost a month prior to the call while conducting patrols, and it appeared to be broken down.  However, a responding officer said there was never any type of signage posted on the side of the van previously when it was seen at the end of their shift on Tuesday before being reported on Friday.

The poster told KWHI she has not been contacted by Brenham police.

If anyone believes there is suspicious activity occurring or if there is a suspicious person that necessitates a police response, they are asked to call the Brenham Police Department at 979-337-7337 or the Washington County non-emergency line at 979-277-7373.  If there are emergency circumstances, call 911.

  1. This van has been there for almost 2 months. Parked in the same spot. Never had any activity inside or around it, but we are scared to the point of not going to or near walmart since we saw it, but we were told police were already taking care of it by workers.

  2. I called about this van three weeks ago for a “welfare check”. The van had been sitting there for a few days at that point. Figured with so many people living out of vehicles, it was a valid reason to be concerned.

  3. The van if it had that wrote on it , even for a sick joke should have been probable cause for a search…”you don’t change your oil after the engine is knocking” right.

    1. That is not a sick joke, that is terrible.
It is also dangerous to the health of the owners of that van.
I know there are plenty of people who would not hesitate to assault the van and the occupants, regardless of a joke or not.
Not cool, not cool at all.
