NAVASOTA POLICE IDENTIFY DECEASED IN FATAL ACCIDENT

A Houston man has been confirmed as the person killed in a fatal accident that occurred early Sunday morning in Navasota.

Navasota Police responded to the scene of a commercial motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred around 4:30am on Highway 6 Southbound between Highway 90 and Highway 105 East.

Officers found a male subject laying in the middle of the highway. The man was found to be deceased and had no identification.

Approximately 100 yards south, police located a dump truck laying on its side in the median.

The driver of the dump truck told police that it was dark and raining heavily. He saw an object in the middle of the roadway, and upon getting closer realized it was a person.

He attempted an evasive maneuver to try to avoid hitting the man, but ultimately still struck him, and then lost control and rolled over in the median.

The pedestrian, who has been identified as 37-year-old Michael Robertson, was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Mark Laughlin.

The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

On Monday, investigators were able to identify Robertson and notify his next of kin.

Police say that Robertson had been walking northbound in the main lanes of Highway 6 prior to being struck.
