DETAILS SHARED ABOUT ‘ICK’ MOVIE PLANNED FOR FILMING IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM

Tourism and Marketing Director Jennifer Eckermann
tells the Brenham City Council on Thursday about
"Ick", the movie that will come to downtown
Brenham in early August for filming.

The movie that will be filming in downtown Brenham later this summer appears to be a mix of two iconic science fiction/horror/comedy films.

During discussion in Thursday’s city council meeting about partial closures of Alamo and Market Streets needed to film in downtown on August 2nd and 3rd, councilmembers learned more about “Ick”.  Online details for the indie film, produced by Ick Productions LLC, describe it as “‘Shaun of the Dead’ meets ‘The Blob’”.

City of Brenham Tourism and Marketing Director Jennifer Eckermann said the production company wanted Brenham to help serve as the basis for Eastbrook, the fictional town featured in “Ick”.

Eckermann said the movie will use the “Downtown Brenham” mural as inspiration for an Eastbrook mural.

According to Eckermann, the company plans to hire 700 to 800 people from the beginning of production to its end.  She said it is focusing heavily on emphasizing the positives of filming in Texas, adding that it wants the city to write a letter after the filmwork is done to let the company know what impact the project had on Brenham.

Eckermann feels Brenham “could not be working with a better media production company” for its first time accommodating filming in the city.

There will be three street closures needed for the filming.  The first will be on August 2nd from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Alamo Street between Austin Street and Park Street.  The second will be on August 3rd from 4:30 to 9 p.m. on Market Street between Alamo Street and Main Street.  The third will also be on the 3rd from 9 to 11:30 p.m., occurring on Alamo Street between Park Street and Baylor Street.

Eckermann explained that the streets will be closed for safety reasons, but businesses will not be closed and pedestrian traffic will not be impeded.

  1. I am pretty sure I remember the movie The Last Prostitute was filmed downtown Brenham. Also a documentary or something was also filmed downtown or science film I think.

  2. 20 years ago a friend from Houston was filming in downtown Brenham, Katy Emdee. This isn’t the first film made here.

    1. They are filming at the schools here in Splendora right now. They have extras, mostly students from town, show up during production time and if they use you for an extra then they pay you cash on the spot.
