Three adults and a child were reported safe after their boat capsized on Fayette Lake during the mid-morning hours on Tuesday.

According to a report from Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Warden Shaun Bayless, three men and a child, who are from the Flatonia area, were setting jug lines on the lake in a small flat-bottomed boat.

The boat was struck by a strong wave, which caused it to capsize. All four were able to swim to the shore opposite of Park Prairie Park, and drag the boat to shore with them.

All four were wearing life jackets.

Game Warden Bayless, Fayette County Sheriff’s Lieutenant David Beyer, and LCRA Rangers took a boat across the lake to pick up the stranded fishermen and boat.

They also retrieved the lines and few catfish that were caught on the way back.

Bayless told the Fayette County Record that no charges are being filed.

During his investigation, he checked their fish, as well as their licenses, and determined that they were following all fishing laws and had all required safety equipment.

However, in the future, he did warn them against overloading their boat, which he said is only big enough for three people.
