THREE ARRESTED IN GRIMES COUNTY DRUG RING

Three people were taken into custody after an almost two-month joint investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Specials Agents with the Texas Department of Public Safety and a Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigator were able to pinpoint where a substantial amount of methamphetamine was being sold and distributed.

This past Thursday at 6:50pm, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on FM 244 near Trinity Avenue in northern Iola for a defective brake light.

With the assistance of a K-9 Unit from the Todd Mission Police Department, a probable cause search was conducted. Officers recovered 45 grams of methamphetamine along with Ziploc baggies.

The driver, who was identified as Russel Ray Reed, was arrestaed for Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance Greater Than 4 Grams but Less Than 200 Grams.

Authorities were able to trace Reed’s arrest to a residence off FM 244 in Iola that was occupied by Kevin Biddle and Helen McClanahand.

On Monday, at approximately 1:00 PM, Troopers and Special Agents with the DPS tried to conduct a traffic stop on Biddle for expired registration, when he evaded in a motor vehicle.

During the pursuit, Biddle threw out a substantial amount of methamphetamine already prepackaged for distribution.

After Biddle was taken into custody, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit alerted them to the vehicle, and DPS Troopers were able to locate a bottle of brake fluid concealed underneath the vehicle’s hood that contained a clear liquid substance, which field tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl.

At approximately 1:30 PM, the search was executed at Biddle’s home, where more methamphetamine was recovered, and McClanahand was also taken into custody.

Biddle was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle with Previous Convictions, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Manufacture and Delivery of Controlled Substance Greater Than 200 Grams but Less Than 400 Grams, and Manufacture/ Delivery of a Controlled Substance Greater Than 400 Grams.

McClanahand was charged with the Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance Greater Than 200 Grams but Less Than 400 Grams.

Law enforcement seized 405 Grams of liquid cocaine and fentanyl, 445 Grams of methamphetamine, GHB, 1.16 Ounces of marijuana, and over $2,300 in currency.
