FOUR CALLS THURSDAY, ONE EARLY FRIDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department responded to four calls on Thursday and one early this (Friday) morning.

At 11:15 a.m. Thursday, the department was called out to a home in the 2800 block of Shadow Lawn Street for a child locked inside a vehicle.  Units arrived to find the family trying to unlock the vehicle, and as firefighters were walking up, a family member was able to unlock it.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a grass fire at Highway 290 East and St. Joseph Street in Chappell Hill.  The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department arrived on location first and cancelled Brenham units.

Approaching 4 p.m., BFD members were dispatched to the 600 block of West First Street for a transportation incident.  As they were enroute, dispatch advised that Brenham police were on location, and that there were no injuries or fluids leaking, so firefighters returned to service.

Minutes later, the department received a call of another transportation incident, this one in the 3000 block of Highway 36 North.  Units made it to the scene and found no injuries or fluids leaking.  Both vehicles involved drove off the highway in a safe area.  Firefighters returned to the station.

Just after 6 a.m. today, fire units were sent out to Ant Street Inn, 107 West Commerce Street, for an alarm sounding.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building when they arrived, and upon entering the building, they found a bad smoke detector.  The department removed the smoke detector and reset the alarm.
