DPS, BLINN COLLEGE ‘IN DISCUSSIONS’ TO TEMPORARILY OFFER DRIVER’S LICENSE SERVICES ON BRENHAM CAMPUS

The Texas Department of Public Safety and Blinn College are in talks to potentially provide driver’s license services at the Brenham Campus.

Blinn Communications Director Richard Bray confirmed in a statement to KWHI this (Thursday) morning that, “DPS has reached out to us and as part of our role as a partner in the community, we are working with their staff to establish a temporary location at the Brenham Campus Student Center.”

DPS’ main office in Brenham at 975 Highway 290 West has been out of commission since April 12th, when a stolen 18-wheeler drove into the building.  Six people were hospitalized, with two of the victims passing away as a result of their injuries.  The suspect, 42-year-old Clenard Parker of Chappell Hill, remains in custody on numerous charges, including murder.

As a result of the incident, Brenham-area residents in need of driver’s license services have been forced to make appointments at offices in other cities like Bryan, Caldwell and Hempstead.

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst also provided a statement on the prospective partnership, saying, “I am familiar and encouraged with the discussions between DPS and Blinn to provide a temporary location and resume local services.”

KWHI asked Bray what specific services would be offered at the temporary location and when it might get up and running.  Bray said the College is “currently in discussions with DPS to identify how we can best serve their needs”, adding that they plan to share that information “once we have some concrete details regarding the timeline and services.”
