THE BARNHILL CENTER UNVEILS SPEAKER SERIES

  

The Barnhill Center in Brenham has announced a new series of events.

The inaugural Speaker Series will kick off its first of four luncheon events at Morriss Hall on May 21st, hosting guests who will share their expertise and knowledge with the public.

Hal Moorman, who served as the chair of the nonprofit that raised funds for the renovation of The Barnhill Center, said offering a speaker series that provides entertainment and education has been a goal since the improvements at the historic property were completed. 

Rick Perry

The first featured speaker on Tuesday, May 21st will be Rick Perry, former Governor of Texas from 2000-2015 and U.S. Secretary of Energy from 2017-2019.  In addition, he served Texas as Lieutenant Governor, Commissioner of Agriculture and District 64 State Representative. 

Rick and his wife, Anita, have been frequent visitors to Washington County and have a home in Round Top.

Karl Rove

Joining Perry in the first season of the speaker series will be nationally known political commentator and consultant Karl Rove on June 20th, Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp on September 10th, and Texas Historical Commission Chairman John Nau on November 22nd.

Rove was a key advisor to Texas Governor George W. Bush, and later served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor in President Bush’s administration.  He has remained a national voice in the Republican Party.

John Sharp

Sharp was active in Texas politics prior to being named Chancellor of Texas A&M in 2011.  He previously served in the Texas legislature as a state representative and state senator.  He was also elected to the Texas Railroad Commission and as State Comptroller.

John Nau

Nau has been a member and chairman of the Texas Historical Commission since 1995.  He was also appointed to a four-year term as chairman of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation by President George W. Bush in 2001.  His visit will be tied to the 100th Anniversary of the historic Simon Theatre in 2025.
