A Meal Train has been organized for Kimber Bender, who just completed fourth grade at Alton Elementary School.

According to Danielle Mallory, the organizer of the fundraiser, Kimber was at school on May 8th when she became disoriented.  She was rushed to the hospital, where she was found to have a brain tumor.

Kimber was flown to Texas Children’s Hospital, where surgery was successfully performed the next day to remove the tumor.  The family soon learned that the tumor was an ependymoma, described by the National Cancer Institute as a rare type of tumor that affects about 200 children per year in the United States.

Kimber is now receiving radiation therapy at MD Anderson in Houston.  Her treatments started on June 25th and will continue Monday through Friday for roughly six weeks.  Her family is driving back and forth to the medical center during the treatments.

Anyone who would like to support the family can contribute to the Meal Train by volunteering to provide meals.  They can also donate or provide gift cards.

The link to the Meal Train is available here.
