According to Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department Captain Dustin Brown, Chappell Hill firefighters were dispatched just after 3:15 p.m., with the Brenham Fire Department as mutual aid, to a reported motorist assist in the 6800 block of Old Chappell Hill Road.  Units soon learned that it was a water rescue due to a vehicle driving in high water.  Washington County EMS was also dispatched to the call.

While responding, DPS informed all other units that the water had risen approximately 2 – 3 inches in the last few minutes.

Chappell Hill booster trucks arrived on the scene on the east side, while Brenham firefighters, DPS and medics assessed the scene on the west side.  The vehicle was found partially swept off the roadway, resting against a pole that kept it from going into the ditch.  A DPS trooper was seen talking with the driver of the vehicle.

One of Chappell Hill’s booster trucks, manned by Swiftwater Technician Captain Matt Martin, entered the water from the east side of the incident and contacted the trooper and the victim.  The victim was assisted into the truck’s passenger seat by Martin, and the trooper climbed into the back of the unit.  The truck then reversed out of the water and moved the victim safely back to shore, where she was evaluated by EMS.

Brown said the victim was the lone occupant of the vehicle, and there were no perceived injuries.

The operation was a collaborative effort between the Chappell Hill and Brenham Fire Departments, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County EMS and DPS.
