BELLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT RECEIVES GIRLS SCOUTS HIGHEST HONOR

A Bellville High School student was recently honored by the Girl Scouts of America with their highest honor.

Mia Surovik received the Gold Award at a ceremony on June 1 at the State Capitol in Austin.

The Gold Award is the highest achievement that a Girls scout can receive. Only 5.4% of those eligible actually receive the award.

Surovik has been in Girls Scouts since she was a six-year-old Daisy Scout, and next week will start her junior year at Bellville High School.

Her Gold Award Project was entitled, “Six Strings to Happiness: How Learning Guitar Can Positively Impact Your Mental Health.”

Surovik created, organized, and hosted a recurring, free guitar camp where youth learned how to read music, play guitar, and learn the benefits of music or mental health.

In addition to the Gold Star Award, at the ceremony, she was presented with the Precious Medals Pin for the rare feat of having earned the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.
