WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS POSITIONS AT NEXT MEETING

The Washington County Commissioners will be discussing positions at their next meeting on Tuesday.

One of the items on the agenda is to approve the job description for Chief Deputy Jail Administrator.  The item stems from a discussion at a previous meeting.

Sheriff Otto Hanak had proposed a six percent raise for current Chief Deputy Jail Administrator Eric Hensley, who has recently taken on some extra responsibilities.

The Commissioners voted 3-2 against the pay increase with County Judge John Durrenberger, along with Commissioners Kirk Hanath and Don Koester voted against, while Commissioners Candice Bullock and Dustin Majewski voted in favor.

Commissioner Hanath said this pay increase would constitute a change in job description, and that the added pay needed to be considered during dedicated budget discussions, rather than regular commissioners court.

Hanath said he agreed with Hensley that his role has changed, but said it needs to be addressed in the job description first, the same as with any other employee who gets added duties.

The Sheriff’s Office is also seeking approval for the position and job description of Corporal for the Patrol Division.  The Corporal would oversee other patrol deputies whenever a sergeant is not available.

The Commissioners will also act on the approval of requests by the District Clerk and the County Clerk for the hiring of additional clerks for the 4th quarter of 2024.

The Washington County Commissioners Court meets Tuesday at 9am at the Washington County Courthouse.

Following the Commissioners meeting, there will be a public meeting for the Pecan Glen Road District. The lone agenda item is to propose the 2024 property tax rate and take a record vote.
