CUBS DOMINATE WACO 55-0 FOR HOMECOMING VICTORY

Head Coach Danny Youngs was hoping his team would learn some lessons from the loss to Gilmer two weeks ago. After last (Friday) night, it's safe to say, lessons learned.

The Brenham Cub Football Team rewarded a packed house at Cub Stadium with a 55-0 Homecoming win over the Waco Lions in their District opener. Brenham dominated the game from start to finish.

The Cubs did an onside kick on the opening kickoff and recovered it. They then drove it down the field and Jakoby Dixon scored on a seven-yard run. Bleu Cienega added the extra point to make it 7-0 with 10:45 left in the first quarter.

Brenham would later block a Waco punt out of the back of the end zone to pick up a safety, and make it 9-0 at the 5:33 mark.

After the safety, the Cubs got the ball again, and Jordan Harvey found Dixon on a 50-yard touchdown pass. The Lions got a penalty on the extra point try, so Brenham went for the two point conversion, and got it on another run by Dixon. That made it 17-0 with 4:33 left in the first quarter.

Dixon scored his third touchdown on a four-yard run with 3:24 left. Bleu Cienega kicked the extra point to make it 24-0.

Brenham got the ball back and scored again ten seconds later on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Harvey to Chris Guidry and Cienega added the PAT to make it 31-0.

The quick touchdowns were set up by a 31 yard interception return by Jadon Shipley, and two fumble recoveries by Doyle Brown and Jase Mueller.

The Cubs closed out the first quarter with Harvey hitting Cartelle Brown on a 45-yard touchdown pass, and Cienega added another PAT to give Brenham a 38-0 advantage.

In the second quarter, Jeremiah Blackshire scored on a one-yard run and Cienega added the extra point to give Brenham a 45-0 lead at the 7:28 mark.

Just before the end of the first half, Harvey would scored on a one-yard run, and then Landon Zelenka added the PAT. The Cub took a 52-0 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Coach Youngs was able to work in many of his reserves. Also with the lopsided score, they ran a continuous clock.

The lone score was a 21-yard field goal by Rafael Salgado in the fourth quarter to increase the Brenham lead to 55-0.

Jakoby Dixon finished the game with 13 carries for 79 yards and two touchdowns. He now moves past Troy Green into ninth on the Cubs' all-time rushing list.

After giving up 42 points to Killeen and 51 points to Gilmer, the Brenham defense came out of the bye week with a complete turnaround. They only allowed 15 yards of total offense to Waco, and the Lions also did not have any first downs in the game.

Next up, the Cubs host the Rudder Rangers on Friday at 7pm. It is also Hall of Honor Night. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.

  1. Best offense is a great defense! The best any opponent can do is tie if they can’t score. Good job Cubs great turn around. Defense didn’t even let them get a first down. Way to go Cubs.
