BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL ACCEPTS WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT, GROUNDWATER SUPPLY PROJECT BIDS

The Brenham City Council accepted a pair of bids for wastewater treatment plant and groundwater projects at a brief meeting today (Thursday).

The bids are for rehabilitating the wastewater treatment plant and the process aeration blowers, along with revitalizing the existing water well at Loesch Street and constructing a new well.

The wastewater project was bid out to Stolz Mechanical Contractors LLC of Old Washington for $3,755,500.  Of that, $3,157,808 will come from American Rescue Plan Act grant funds, while $597,692 will be paid with Fiscal Year 2024 wastewater bond proceeds.

The winning bidder for the groundwater supply project was Hydro Resources-Mid Continent Inc. of Creedmoor, at a cost of $1,864,560.  That will be funded with Fiscal Year 2024 bond proceeds.

While there was little discussion by the council on the items, Mayor Pro Tem Clint Kolby asked Public Utilities Project Manager Shawn Bolenbarr what the timeline looks like for completing the water wells.   Bolenbarr said the city anticipates wrapping up the first phase by July 2025, with full completion expected by October 2028.

Also at today’s meeting, the council:

  • Approved an ordinance on its first reading providing no parking zones on West Fifth Street, fronting Blinn College property.  The zones are at 805 West Fifth Street heading westward, ending at the intersection of West Fifth Street and Prairie Lea Street.  They are also at the most westward driveway of Lot B heading westward, ending at the intersection of West Fifth Street and Prairie Lea Street.
  • Approved an ordinance on its first reading authorizing the placement of a stop sign on Muse Street at its intersection with Harrington Street.
