BURTON SEASON ENDS WITH A 27-26 LOSS TO BRACKETT
The season came to an end for the Burton Panther Football Team as they fell to Brackett 27-26 in the Bi-District Round of the Playoffs.
Brackett struck first by returning an interception for a touchdown at 8:59 in the first quarter. Connor McKaskie missed the extra point, but the Tigers still lead 6-0.
Burton would get the ball back on their first drive, and quickly find the end zone on a long touchdown pass from K.D. Patterson to Drayton Oakes. Caleb Duffy missed the extra point, which led to a 6-6 tie with 7:59 left in the first quarter.
Jordan Balderas would score on an eight yard touchdown run to put the Tigers back in front, McKaskie made the extra point, and Brackett led 13-7 with 6:56 to go in the first quarter.
The Tigers scored again on a three-yard touchdown run by Kontagious Cook. Another extra point by McKaskie made it 20-6 with 50 seconds left until halftime.
A good kickoff return by Burton and a penalty on Brackett gave the Panthers a short field. Patterson took it in from one-yard out as time expired and Duffy kicked the extra point to cut the lead to 20-13 at halftime.
Neither team found the end zone in the third quarter.
Burton would tie the game at the start of the fourth quarter on an 80-yard touchdown run by Brady Griffin and an extra point by Duffy to make it 20-20 with 11:45 to go.
Tiger QB Troy Sandoval would give them the lead gain on a touchdown pass to Abel Aguirre. On that attempt, Cook kicked the extra point to give Brackett a 27-20 lead with 3:03 left in the game.
Burton was not done yet. Patterson found Braydon Martin on a touchdown pass to bring it down to a one-point game with 34 seconds left.
Panther Head Coach Jason Hodde rolled the dice and went for the win with a two-point conversion attempt to win the game instead of the extra point to tie it and send it into overtime.
Patterson's pass was complete, but the referees ruled that the receiver was stopped just short of the goal line.
Brackett recovered the ensuing kickoff and after a kneel down, the season for the Panthers came to an end.
They finished with a record of 6-5.
