SOMERVILLE HC/AD ROBERTS LEAVING COACHING TO TAKE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL JOB
Coming off their most successful season in over 40 years, the Somerville Yeguas will be in the market for a new Head Football Coach and Athletic Director.
After three seasons at the helm, Philip Roberts is stepping away from coaching to take on a new task. Roberts has been named as an assistant principal at the Somerville Elementary/Intermediate School Campus.
According to the Burleson County Tribune, Roberts requested the position as a new challenge that will allow him to stay in the district.
He also sighted being a dad to his three children: ages 7-years old, 5-years old, and 8-months old as a big factor in his decision. Philip is married to Katie Roberts, who is the Girls' Athletic Coordinator and Head Softball Coach at Brenham High School.
Assistant Coach Luke Klingler has been named as the Interim Athletic Director while the search begins for a replacement.
Somerville Superintendent Eric Holton told the Tribune that they are looking for someone to build on what Roberts and his staff have done over the past three seasons.
This past season, the Yeguas went 11-2, won their first district championship in over 40 years, and made it to the Region Semifinals of the playoffs.
