GRIMES COUNTY ESCAPEE BACK IN CUSTODY
A Grimes County Jail inmate is back in custody after escaping from a mental health facility in Houston.
Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell said that he was notified by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales that 36-year-old Scott Evan Shepple was located and captured at a Houston area motel.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team along with other Harris County Sheriff’s Office Units, and the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Offender’s Task Force arrested Shepple without incident at 5:40am today (Tuesday).
The arrest was made at the Green Chase Inn in the 9700 block of North Freeway.
Shepple had been at the Grimes County Jail since his arrest on December 4, 2024. He is facing multiple charges including sexual assault, resisting arrest, and assaulting a peace officer.
According to the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, Shepple was taken to the Cypress Creek Behavior Hospital in Houston on Monday morning after he tried to hang himself in his jail cell.
He escaped custody around 8:45am.
Also arrested at the motel were Michael Garrett and Carl Banks, who were charged with Hindering Apprehension. Banks received an additional charge for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
In addition to that, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies recovered multiple firearms at the scene.
The case remains under a further investigation.
In an update posted on the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Shepple was returned to the Grimes County Jail shortly before 8:30am this (Tuesday) morning.
