The Visit Brenham Washington County Destination
Marketing Organization receives a certificate from
Travel Texas at Thursday's Brenham City Council
meeting. The certificate is in recognition of the City
of Brenham being certified as a Tourism Friendly
Texas Community.

City of Brenham Tourism and Marketing Director Jennifer Eckermann is being honored with an award from the Texas Historical Commission, called the Anice B. Read Award of Excellence in Community Heritage Development.  It recognizes “exemplary work in community revitalization, preservation planning and protection, or heritage tourism which significantly advances the impacts of historic preservation in Texas.”

Eckermann pointed to the “community” in the title of the award, saying this honor is not hers alone and that it would not be possible without the people and the team around her.

Eckermann will formally receive the award at the Texas Historical Commission’s annual conference in Austin on Thursday, April 24th.

Additionally, the Visit Brenham Washington County Destination Marketing Organization was presented with a certificate by representatives from Travel Texas designating the City of Brenham as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community

Officially announced earlier this month, the city is one of the first 40 communities in Texas to complete certification through the Tourism Friendly Texas program, acknowledging the work being done to advance tourism as an economic driver.
