IOLA MAN PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED IN KENT MOORE CABINETS SHOOTING RECEIVES LIFE SENTENCE FOR SHOOTING DPS TROOPER

An Iola man who was sentenced to life in prison earlier this month in Brazos County after the deadly Kent Moore Cabinets shooting has received another life sentence in Grimes County.

Larry Bollin
(Brazos Co. Jail)

31-year-old Larry Bollin pleaded guilty on Friday to Attempted Capital Murder of a Police Officer and was sentenced on Monday.  The first degree felony charge stems from the shooting of a DPS trooper who was attempting to arrest Bollin at his home in Iola after the shooting in Bryan on April 8, 2021.

According to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, DPS Trooper Juan Tovar, who is now a sergeant, was traveling south on FM 39 in Grimes County when he found Bollin and his vehicle at his residence.  However, before he could initiate contact, Bollin opened fire on Tovar’s vehicle, and one of the rounds went through the windshield and struck him in the left eye.  Bollin fled the scene, but was located near Bedias and taken into custody without further incident.

Tovar survived, but lost his left eye as a result of the attack.

Bollin was originally indicted in June 2021, but he was temporarily considered unfit to stand trial and was treated at a state hospital.  In February, he was considered ready to stand trial.

Bollin was convicted on July 21st for the murder of Timothy Smith in the Kent Moore Cabinets shooting.  Multiple other victims were wounded.

As part of Bollin’s plea agreement in Grimes County, he must plead guilty to his remaining Brazos County cases and waive his appeals for all cases in both Brazos County and Grimes County.

Bollin awaits transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to serve out his two life sentences, which will run concurrently.
