BRENHAM CUBETTE VOLLEYBALL PREVIEWS UPCOMING SEASON ON SPORTSLINE
On Monday, July 28, Craig Montana welcomed head volleyball coach Megan Whalen to The Sports Line, along with senior players Brinley Benson and Zoe Zwerneman.
The conversation opened with a reflection on the 2024 season, where the team narrowly missed the playoffs despite finishing with a winning record. Both Benson and Zwerneman expressed a renewed hunger to get back on the court and return to postseason play. Coach Whalen echoed their sentiments, noting that the disappointment of missing the playoffs has fueled the team’s determination heading into 2025.
Whalen emphasized that one of the keys to reaching their goals this year will be learning how to close out tight matches—something she believes could make all the difference in securing a playoff spot.
The group also discussed a new approach to team camp this year, which included training sessions led by professional players. All three agreed that the experience has been a valuable boost heading into the season. With the first match set for Friday, August 1, they highlighted how crucial their offseason work has been. Zwerneman shared that she’s stayed busy year-round, participating in numerous offseason activities to stay sharp.
With eight seniors on the roster, Coach Whalen talked about making this a memorable season, while also focusing on developing a large underclassman group that includes nine juniors and 19 sophomores. The trio also touched on a much-anticipated matchup against rival Bellville and the focused mindset they’re carrying into the 2025 campaign.
