BRENHAM GAMECHANGERS HOSTS DRIVE-THRU SUPPLY DRIVE TO GET KIDS READY FOR SCHOOL

Hundreds of Washington County students preparing for the new school year are getting a helping hand from Brenham GameChangers.

A long line of cars filled the parking lot at the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County today (Thursday) for the Brenham GameChangers’ drive-thru school supply drive.  Over 900 bags of school supplies were handed out to Brenham and Burton families.

Courtney Mason, assistant principal at Brenham High School and co-coordinator of the school supply drive along with Toni Ortega, says she sees firsthand the students who do not have everything they need for the classroom and the impact that can have on their success.  She says this event aims to address those insecurities so that they can focus on their education.

The drive is made possible through the assistance of donors throughout the community, from individuals to businesses.  Mason says as of today, Brenham GameChangers has received around $30,000 in school supply donations, helping the organization to fulfill the most supply requests in the history of the drive.

Families registered in advance for the drive and received vouchers to present during the supply pick-up.

Along with hosting the school supply drive, Brenham GameChangers provides scholarships to provide local youth with opportunities to participate in sports, music, art, dance and other activities.  It also hosts etiquette lunches and mock interviews for high school students and is getting ready for its first “Big Event” community service day on October 4th at Brenham ISD campuses.
