HIGH-SPEED CHASE IN NAVASOTA ENDS WITH FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH

A motorcyclist has died from injuries sustained during a crash Wednesday evening, following a police pursuit in Grimes and Brazos counties.

The Navasota Police Department says that around 7:45 p.m., the department initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle headed northbound on Highway 6 without a visible license plate.

Police say the driver did not stop, instead fleeing at a high rate of speed.  The motorcycle exited onto FM 2154, where the driver lost control and crashed on the northbound feeder road of Highway 6.  According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, the motorcyclist went into the grassy ditch and struck a property fence.

Emergency personnel from the Navasota Fire Department and Grimes County EMS responded.  The driver, identified as 42-year-old Christopher McMurtry of Houston, was flown to St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan, where he was later pronounced dead.

DPS is leading the investigation.
