WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS TO CELEBRATE GRAND RE-OPENING NOV. 8; ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECT TO CLOSE GROUNDS THROUGH SEPT. 19
A multi-million dollar renovation project at the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site is nearing its completion.
The Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation and Texas Historical Commission will host a grand re-opening celebration at the site on Saturday, November 8th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Since 2023, the site has been undergoing over $50 million in improvements to enhance the visitor experience. Those improvements include a fully renovated visitor center, an expanded Star of the Republic Museum with two theaters and three interactive exhibits, and a recreated Washington townsite to highlight its role as the last capital of the Republic of Texas.
More details about the re-opening celebration will be announced in the future.
Ahead of the re-opening, the Historical Foundation announced that the site will be closed from today (Monday) to September 19th for road construction and paving projects, weather-permitting. During this time, there will be no access to the complex, including the Barrington Living History Farm.
