BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD ACCEPTS $300,000 IN DONATIONS
The Brenham School Board on Monday accepted multiple donations totaling $300,000.
Brenham ISD was presented donations of $180,000 from the Brenham ISD Education Foundation for educator mini-grants; $118,500 from Run for the Youth of Washington County, the organization that hosts the Blue Bell Fun Run; and a combined $1,500 from the Washington County Ladies Lions, Brenham Evening Lions and Brenham Noon Lions Clubs to offset any outstanding student meal debt.
Brenham ISD Chief Communications and Engagement Officer Brooke Trahan, who also serves on the Education Foundation Board of Directors, said this donation brings the foundation’s total disbursements up to over $1 million since it was established in 2004. Fundraising comes from in-kind donations, teacher contributions, the Dinner to Remember event in April, and Brazos Valley Gives in October.
Joe Robertson, president of Run for the Youth of Washington County, said the 47th Annual Blue Bell Fun Run this past March had close to 5,400 registered runners. Proceeds from the run support Brenham ISD’s athletic programs.
For the Lions Club donations, Trahan said these will cover debts from last school year’s meals, since the district now has the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program that provides free meals.
The school board also approved the ability to accept donations designated for the Brenham High School UIL Advanced Academics program. UIL Advanced Academics Coordinator Matthew DuPont said donations will help bring new opportunities for students to participate in academic competitions, recruit teachers to serve as UIL event chairs and cover other program-related expenses.
