WASHINGTON COUNTY’S NEW GAME WARDEN READY TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY

As Washington County gets ready for the start of deer-hunting season next weekend, a new Game Warden will be serving the area.

Vinicius Mathias

Vinicius “Vinny” Mathias fills the role previously held by Kyle Yoder, who has joined the Texas Department of Public Safety

Born and raised in South America, Mathias has been stationed as a Game Warden for the past four and a half years in Houston, after graduating from the Texas Game Warden Academy in 2021.  He began his law enforcement career as a detention officer for Harris County and was originally interested in becoming a deputy before deciding to join the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

Mathias says his experience in Houston allowed him to collaborate with many different people and agencies, and has helped him to become more well-rounded as an officer.  He looks forward to meeting local residents and serving the Washington County community.

Mathias says his family’s background with law enforcement and the military played a big part in choosing to pursue that path himself.  Prior to doing so, he worked as a personal trainer and martial arts instructor with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Mathias welcomes anyone with information or questions to contact him by calling his office number at 254-784-5868.

Mathias is scheduled to join as a guest on Monday’s edition of the Brenham Sportsline on KWHI, joining TPWD Natural Resource Specialist Stephanie Damron for the “Deer Hunter Special” at 5:35 p.m.
