ELECTION DAY ARRIVES FOR CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS, BRENHAM ISD BOND & TAX RATE PROPOSALS

Today (Tuesday) is Election Day in Washington County for the Texas Constitutional Amendment and Brenham ISD propositions.

Along with 17 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution, voters will decide on two measures for Brenham ISD, those being a voter approval tax rate election (VATRE) and a $39 million bond issue.

The VATRE seeks to raise the property tax rate for the purpose of bringing in additional maintenance and operations (M&O) funding, going toward employee pay raises and operational needs.  The bond will address capital improvement projects, such as HVAC, plumbing, roofing and electrical, at district campuses and facilities.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at six polling locations in Washington County: Friedens Church of Washington, Washington County Expo Event Center, Brenham VFW Hall, Brenham American Legion Hall, Blinn College Student Center, Burton Community Center.

During two weeks of early voting, 4,057 people cast ballots out of 25,674 registered voters in the county, for an early turnout of 15.8 percent.  Of that, 3,742 of the 22,660 registered Brenham ISD voters participated early, or 16.51 percent.

KWHI will have election coverage once polls close at 7 p.m. on AM 1280, FM 101.7 and kwhi.com
