BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO ACT ON ROAD STUDY, DISCUSS DOWNTOWN LIFE SAFETY GRANTS

The Brenham City Council will look to proceed with a road condition study at its meeting on Thursday.

The council will vote on a professional services agreement with Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) for 2026 pavement data collection and analysis services.

The city first worked on a street inventory study with IMS in 2020, with the results being released the following year.  The study serves as a primary resource for the city to determine priority, funding and action plans for maintaining local roadways.  Five years later, the city wishes to have IMS conduct a follow-up study for an updated assessment.

In a work session, the council will discuss a proposed life safety grant program for downtown property owners.

The life safety grant would provide financial assistance for construction of improvements to downtown properties that are needed to comply with Texas Accessibility Standards, International Fire Code and International Building Code.  As drafted, the grant program will allow eligible projects, such as the installation of fire sprinkler systems and ensuring ADA-compliant access and restrooms, to be reimbursed for up to half of the estimated cost of improvements, up to $60,000 per property.

In other business, the council will:

  • Hold executive session discussion to consult with an attorney about a petition received from property owner Carterbug Holdings, LLC requesting that 22.08 acres of land be released from the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.  Another executive session item will cover the Brenham Municipal Airport, its operations and services, and associated matters.
  • Consider a resolution providing for the approval of the bylaws of the Tourism Advisory Board and an updated interlocal agreement between the city and Washington County for advocating and promoting tourism programs and services.
  • Act on a resolution assuring the city’s compliance with Title II of the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
