BRENHAM MAN ARRESTED AFTER FAMILY SHOOTING LEAVES TWO HOSPITALIZED
A Brenham man is charged in a shooting that has resulted in the hospitalization of two family members.
36-year-old Clay Walker Schumpert was arrested after deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting around 3:45 p.m. Monday in the 9600 block of Old Independence Road. According to the sheriff’s office, the caller stated that he had shot his father and sister.
At the scene, deputies found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso and a female victim with a gunshot wound to her head.
Both victims were transported by medics to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
Upon making contact with the suspect, identified as Schumpert, the sheriff’s office says that he refused to comply with deputies’ commands, but he was eventually detained and transported to the Washington County Jail. He was booked on two counts of Aggravated Assault of a Date, Family or Household Member with a Weapon and three counts of Assault of a Public Servant.
Schumpert was previously arrested in October by Brenham police after they reported seizing multiple types of illegal narcotics and paraphernalia as the result of a search warrant stemming from an investigation into marijuana distribution.
The sheriff’s office says it continues to actively investigate and is being assisted by the Texas Rangers. No further details can be provided at this time.
