BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER PARTNERSHIP WITH VET CLINIC, VOTE ON BUDGET

The Burton City Council will meet Tuesday to potentially enter into a partnership with the Burton Veterinary Clinic for a feral spay and neuter program.

During a workshop in November, the council went over the possibility of an agreement with the Burton Veterinary Clinic to host a program for neutering and spaying feral cats in the community.  The city was asked by the clinic to consider helping provide equipment for capturing animals and partial reimbursement for services rendered.

The council will also hold a public hearing and vote on the city’s general and water/sewer budgets for the 2026-27 Fiscal Year.  According to the city’s website, the proposed general budget accounts for $216,889 in income and $196,630, as well as $130,411 in debt service fund revenue and $125,596 in debt service expenditures, for net income of $25,084.  The water/sewer budget is projected to receive $261,990 in income and pay $249,278 in expenses, resulting in net income of $12,711.

Additionally, the council will address the vacancy at the city secretary position, following the resignation of Angela Harrington in February.  Topics in the discussion could include the job description, bookkeeping, pay and benefits, the interview process and questions, interview scheduling, applications, and the appointment of an interim city secretary.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the council will:

  • Review bid processes and submissions for an alarm system for city hall.
  • Consider resolutions authorizing the mayor to act as the city’s executive officer and authorized representative in all matters pertaining to the city’s participation in the State of Texas 2026 Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant Program and the 2026 Project Information Form (PIF) Grant with the Texas Water Development Board.
  • Discuss the Washington County Appraisal District’s proposed budget.

The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
