BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO HEAR POLICE DEPT. REPORTS
Reports from the Brenham Police Department will be among the items of note for the Brenham City Council to consider on Thursday.
Police Chief Gary Boshears is scheduled to present an update on matters involving the police department. He will then break down the department’s annual racial profiling report, which details traffic stops performed by the department in 2025.
The council will also vote on two change order requests, one for Brenham Fire Station #2 and the other for the city’s water meter replacement project.
The change order for the fire station, which remains on schedule for substantial completion in April, includes a reduction in cost of $124,705 due to the determination that the temporary casing of drilled concrete piers was not needed. It also includes a 49-day extension to the project schedule due to factors such as weather days, time required to coordinate with the design team, and the delivery of specified items.
The change order for the water meter project would reduce the total cost by $11,582. The city says Meter Matters was able to install 2,479 of the 2,689 water meters, and of the remaining 210 meters, 69 had already been installed by city staff due to emergencies. The last 141 meters were deemed to be difficult to get to or needed additional work beyond the scope outlined in the original agreement, so city staff will replace those remaining meters.
Special recognition will be given to City Manager Carolyn Miller, who is preparing to retire on March 25th.
In other business, the council will:
- Consider authorizing the submission of a grant application to the Texas General Land Office (GLO) for the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Local Communities Program. The GLO is administering a new round of grant funding related to the 2024 disaster events, including severe storms and Hurricane Beryl. The city plans to pursue funding to stabilize Hog Branch Creek to prevent erosion impacting the wastewater treatment plant.
- Act on authorizing the selection of a grant administration service provider and an engineering, architectural and surveying services provider for the GLO Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Local Communities Program.
- Act on accepting the audit from Seidel Schroeder for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2025.
- Receive a work session presentation of the tax phase-in compliance review committee report regarding current tax phase-in agreements.
- Hold executive session discussion to discuss the Brenham Municipal Airport and the city’s transition to a new city manager.
The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
