LEE CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE RELEASES NEW IMAGES IN 1975 COLD CASE INVESTIGATION

As the Lee County Sheriff’s Office works to solve a decades-old cold case involving the unidentified remains of a toddler, it is asking for the public’s help to identify the child using new technology.

After re-opening its investigation into the death of a 3- to 5-year-old boy whose remains were found south of Giddings along Highway 77 in September 1975, the sheriff’s office on Monday shared new images stemming from a partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.  The images created by a forensic artist show an approximation of what the child may have looked like and the clothes he was wearing.

According to the sheriff’s office, the child’s skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area near a roadside park, wrapped in a Canon-brand bed sheet with a multi-colored floral pattern.  The body was enclosed in two dark green trash bags secured with baling wire.

The child had straight dark brown hair, about four inches long, and was wearing a Buster Brown-brand shirt and pants.  Investigators believe the child died about two months before being discovered.

Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger said, “This child has remained unidentified for nearly 50 years.  Our goal is to restore this child’s identity and bring answers to any surviving family members.”

Anyone who has information related to the case or who recognizes the facial approximation is encouraged to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 979-542-2800.  Tips can also be submitted through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
