MAN CHARGED WITH MONEY LAUNDERING AFTER OVER $227,000 SEIZED IN WASHINGTON CO. TRAFFIC STOP
A DPS traffic stop on Monday near Brenham resulted in the seizure of a large sum of cash and the arrest of a Leander man on charges including money laundering.
DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz said troopers stopped a vehicle around 1:45 p.m. along Highway 290 West, in the Berlin area. The stop was for a window tint violation.
According to the DPS – Southeast Texas Region Facebook page, the driver was found to have an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody. Troopers reported finding a blue bag on the back floorboard, filled with bundles of cash totaling over $227,000.
A K9 from the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office was called in and detected the scent of narcotics in the vehicle and on the money. Additionally, troopers say they found a Glock 19 in the center console. DPS believes the money seized is tied to illegal activity.
38-year-old David Clifton Perkins III was booked into the Washington County Jail for his warrant of Driving While License Invalid Enhanced and new charges of Money Laundering $150,000 - $300,000 and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
