BURTON STUDENTS COMPETE AT UIL REGIONAL ACADEMIC MEET

The Burton Panthers traveled to La Vernia High School this past weekend for the Class 2A Region 4 UIL Academic Meet.

As a team, the Panthers performed well, outscoring 35 of the 53 schools at the meet.

The top performance of the day came from Senior Cadeyn Manley, who, for the second year in a row, advanced to state in Computer Science. Manley captured the second-place spot by scoring 52 points in the contest.

Also advancing to state is Senior Ethan Schubert, who placed first in Physics by scoring 16 points.

Traveling to state as alternates in Social Studies is the team led by Senior Devlin Douglas. Douglas placed 7th overall and scored 52 of the team's 109 points as part of their second place as a team. Joining Douglas were Freshman James Jarvis, who was 9th overall, Junior Jacob Brode who was 18th, and Senior Hunter Duffy, who was 19th.

While not earning points for the overall school score, the Panthers were well represented by Freshman Ayden Vogel who placed 14th in Accounting, Senior Devlin Douglas who placed 10th in Current Events, and Senior Cadeyn Manley who placed 14th in Mathematics, 

Those qualifying for state competition will travel to the University of Texas Campus in Austin on Monday, May 18th.
