SOME BLINN STUDENT GROUPS UNAVAILABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN MAIFEST PARADE

For the first time in many years, Blinn College student groups like the Band and the Treasures Dance Team will not be a part of the Brenham Maifest parade.

In a statement, Blinn Communications Director Richard Bray says since the schedule for this year’s Maifest celebration, which falls on Mother’s Day weekend, comes after the conclusion of the academic year, many students will be returning home, beginning summer employment or otherwise moving on to other commitments.  As a result, some student groups that have participated in past years will be unavailable to take part this year.

According to Bray, the Blinn College Board of Trustees will be a part of the parade, and the College will continue supporting Maifest through advertising in the official program.

The statement concludes, “Blinn remains deeply appreciative of Brenham Maifest and all it means to the community.  We look forward to continuing our support of this treasured tradition in the years ahead.”

Brenham Maifest will officially get underway at Fireman’s Park with the kick-off picnic on Wednesday, May 6th.  The carnival will open on Thursday, May 7th, making way for activities on Friday and Saturday, May 8th and 9th, like the parade through downtown Brenham, live music, and the junior and senior coronation ceremonies.
