BRENHAM HIGH SCHOOL HANDS OUT YEAR END SPORTS AWARDS

The Brenham High School Athletic Department handed out their year end sports awards this (Thursday) morning at the BHS Main Gym.

Athletic Director Danny Youngs announced that they were handing out the prestigious Joe Routt Awards for the 60th time this year, and for the fourth year in a row, the award goes to both a male and a female athlete.

The winners were Andre Mojica from the Cub Football Team, and McKenzie Tiemann from the Brenham Cubette Softball Team.   

On hand to make the presentation were Jim Locke, who is the grandson of Joe Routt, and his wife Carol. Both award winners received a $1,000 scholarship.

The Joe Routt Awards are given annually to athletes that have demonstrated outstanding grades, leadership, citizenship, dependability, athletic ability, and are strong competitors in every aspect.

Also given out, were the Owen E. Erekson Awards, which go to the best two-sport senior athletes. This year’s winners were Chris Guidry for football and basketball, and Antyiahna Lang for volleyball and basketball.

The Fellowship of Christian Athlete Awards were presented as well. The FCA Male Athlete of the Year went to Landry Mendoza from the Cub Baseball Team. Meanwhile, they had co-winners for the FCA Female Athlete the Year, Kate Martin and Harper Castillo from the Cubette Softball Team.

They also recognized this year’s KWHI/John Brieden Awards. For football, the MVP on Offense went to Chris Guidry, while the MVP on Defense went to Kristian Prosper. For baseball, the Star of the Year Award went to Luke Hardy.
