Citizens National Bank is seeking a Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) to build a banking facility on 1.26 acres of vacant land at 400 South Austin Street, at the southwest corner of South Austin Street and West First Street. The bank, which is based out of Cameron, opened its temporary location in Brenham earlier this year at 317 South Austin Street.
City staff says the proposed 2,523-square-foot facility incorporates a train depot-inspired concept acknowledging the area’s rail history, combined with an all-brick exterior. The bank writes in its application that the design will include a large pedestrian front porch and an arbor entrance on the west side. Renderings in the application show plans for a three-lane drive-thru and nine, on-street public parking spaces along West First Street, in addition to dedicated customer and employee parking on the property.

City staff recommends approval of the CoA request.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, board members will consider adopting a local preservation plan for submission to the Texas Historical Commission in order to become a Certified Local Government community. The plan is meant to serve as a foundation for a more formal community-wide preservation plan, with goals and objectives to guide the Historic Preservation Board and the city in protecting and promoting historic districts, neighborhoods and landmarks.
The board will meet Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
