BRENHAM ISD WATCHING WEATHER CONDITIONS AHEAD OF GRADUATION
Brenham ISD officials are keeping a close eye on the weather as graduation day approaches.

an update on graduation plans for Friday during
Monday's Brenham School Board meeting.
Superintendent Clay Gillentine said at Monday’s Brenham School Board meeting that he recently met with leaders at the high school campus and other administrators to review plans for Friday’s festivities at Cub Stadium. Forecasts continue to show strong chances of rain and thunderstorms throughout this week.
Gillentine said the goal is to keep graduation on Friday if at all possible, even if it is delayed.
Gillentine said if necessary, the district will move graduation to the following day.
Graduation is set to begin at 8 p.m. on Friday. KWHI will have a live broadcast on AM 1280, FM 101.7 and kwhi.com. There will also be a livestream on the KWHI Facebook page.
Further information about Brenham ISD's alternate plans can be read in the district's press release below:
Brenham ISD continues to closely monitor weather conditions as we approach Graduation for the Class of 2026 at Cub Stadium.
At this time, graduation remains scheduled for Friday, May 22, at 8:00 PM.
District leadership, transportation, operations, safety personnel, and local partners are actively reviewing forecasts and preparing contingency plans should weather conditions impact the ceremony or parking accessibility.
Current contingency plans include:
- Delaying the Friday evening start time later into the night if weather windows allow
- A 10:00 PM Friday start time serves as the latest possible delay before moving to an alternate date
- Utilizing alternate parking and transportation plans if parking lots become too saturated from rainfall
- Moving graduation to Saturday evening if weather conditions make Friday unsafe or unworkable
Many families have asked about the possibility of moving graduation indoors to the Brenham High School auditorium. While that option has been discussed, indoor seating capacity is extremely limited and would significantly reduce the number of guests each graduate could bring. Additionally, accessibility, staging, livestreaming, and overall event logistics become much more difficult indoors with a graduating class of this size.
Because of those limitations, the district’s preference is to safely hold graduation at Cub Stadium, even if weather conditions require a delayed start time or alternate date.
The district plans to evaluate weather forecasts and parking lot conditions again on Thursday, with additional decisions and communication expected on Friday if contingency plans become necessary.
If weather conditions require a delay during the ceremony itself, lightning and severe weather safety procedures may require temporary pauses or movement to shelter areas until conditions improve.
Additional details regarding alternate parking, shuttle transportation, or schedule adjustments will only be released if needed.
Families are encouraged to closely monitor:
- ParentSquare communications
- Brenham ISD social media channels
- The Brenham ISD website
- KWHI and local media partners, who will also help communicate updates if changes become necessary
Graduation will also be livestreamed on the KWHI Facebook page for those unable to attend in person or for families wanting to follow along remotely.
Our priority remains celebrating the Class of 2026 in a safe and meaningful way while keeping families informed throughout the process.
