RIPPLE, TIDWELL WIN RUNOFF ELECTION FOR BURTON CITY COUNCIL

An extended election season for the City of Burton has come to an end, as the winners have been decided in the city council runoff election on Saturday.

For Position #2, Sheila Ripple defeated incumbent Tommie Gilmon 79 – 69.

Position #5 incumbent Macey Tidwell will retain her seat after securing a 76 – 72 victory over Berneake Gantt.

The two council positions went to a runoff following ties in the May 2nd election.  The third seat on the ballot in that election, Position #3, was won by Charly Ruemke over incumbent Jeff Eckhardt, 73 – 55.

According to unofficial totals from the Washington County Elections Office, 149 ballots were cast in the runoff election, including 94 during early voting, 52 on Election Day and three absentee.  The city has 272 registered voters.

Results are unofficial until they are canvassed by the city council.  Councilmembers will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall to canvass the returns and administer oaths of office to Ripple and Tidwell.
