LCRA OPENS APPLICATIONS FOR COMMUNITY GRANTS UP TO $100,000

Applications are now open for a new round of community grants through the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA).

LCRA and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative
representatives presented a $25,000 grant in May to the
Burton Friends and Neighbors for lighting upgrades at
Burton Park. The grant is part of LCRA’s Community
Grants program, which is accepting applications for its
next round of grants through July 31.

Grant applications are available online at https://lcra.org/grants and must be submitted by midnight on July 31st.

The LCRA Community Grants are awarded twice a year to volunteer fire departments, emergency responders, libraries, civic groups, museums and other tax-exempt nonprofit organizations, in addition to local governments, schools and economic development organizations.  Most grants are for $25,000 or less, but several grants of up to $50,000 and one grant of up to $100,000 will also be awarded.

To date, LCRA has awarded 2,218 community grants totaling more than $56 million. When combined with $250 million in community-raised matching funds, the program has invested almost $307 million in local communities.

Grants awarded earlier this year in the area include $25,000 for lighting upgrades at Burton Park, $50,000 to help the Industry Volunteer Fire Department build a lighted helipad, $25,000 to renovate the Bellville American Legion Hall, $23,295 for a new teen center in Giddings, $25,000 for Elizabeth Lutheran Church in Caldwell to purchase new playground equipment, and $50,000 to replace outdated lighting at the Columbus Community Park.

Applicants requesting more than $5,000 must supply matching funds of at least 20 percent.  Eligible projects must benefit or be available to an entire community and improve the value of a capital asset through building, renovating or purchasing equipment. Grants are not available to individuals, for-profit entities, professional associations, social service projects or limited-use facilities.
