INDUSTRIAL DEFEATS WASHINGTON COUNTY MAJOR GIRLS 11-0 IN STATE SEMIFINAL

It was a rough night at the ballpark for the Washington County Major Girls as they lost to Industrial 11-0 at the Texas East State Little League Tournament in Rosenberg on Saturday night.

Washington County had advanced with a forfeit over Houston East End Friday night. East End only had eight players, and Little League rules say you have to have nine. Industrial advanced by beating Twin County 12-1.

Last (Saturday) night, both teams had to wait through a weather delay, and for Twin County to eliminate Houston East End 14-4 in the first game of the evening, so the start time was pushed back an extra 30 minutes. The rain was finally starting to clear out as the winner's bracket game between Washington County and Industrial got started.

In the bottom of the first inning, Industrial's pitcher Ellie Collins led it off with a walk, and she later scored the first run of the game after a sacrifice bunt and two wild pitches to make it 1-0.

Industrial picked up another run in the bottom of the second inning when centerfielder Kirstyn Tumas circled the bases on an inside-the-park home run to increase the lead to 2-0.

Washington County could not get anything going offensively. Collins, who pitched the first three innings, and Tumas, who pitched the last inning, combined on a no-hitter. Washington County only managed four walks in the game.

Industrial put the game away in the bottom of the third with nine runs to make it 11-0 and put the run rule into effect.

Washington County had one more chance in the top of the fourth, but a strikeout and two groundouts ended the game.

With the loss, Washington County drops into the Loser's Bracket. They will face Twin County tonight at 6pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 5:30pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, KWHI.com, and the KWHI app.

If Washington County wins, they will move to face Industrial for the Championship on Monday at 6pm. They would have to beat Industrial twice to win the tournament.

If Washington County loses, their season is over.
