JAY PETRASH HONORED FOR 50 YEARS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT
Longtime Brenham and Washington County law enforcement official Jay Petrash was honored last week for 50 years of service.

Petrash, who is Chief Deputy at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, was recognized at a ceremony on Thursday at the Fireman’s Training Center in Brenham. Family, friends, elected officials and law enforcement officers gathered to celebrate his half a century of public service.
The ceremony included the presentation of commemorative awards, remarks from family members, and reflections on Petrash’s lasting impact.
Petrash began his law enforcement career in 1976 and would go on to join the Brenham Police Department in 1981. There, he served in all ranks, including three terms as interim police chief, commander of the Independence Narcotics Task Force, and SWAT commander. He joined the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 as chief deputy under Sheriff Otto Hanak.
Petrash was also a volunteer in the Brenham Fire Department from 2006 to 2016, and he continues to support the department as an associate member.
The sheriff’s office congratulates Petrash on achieving this milestone, saying his legacy of integrity, professionalism and mentorship has left an enduring mark on those he has served and served with.
