ONE KILLED AFTER SUV REAR-ENDS 18-WHEELER ON HIGHWAY 36 IN WASHINGTON CO.

  

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal rear-end collision involving an 18-wheeler this (Monday) afternoon on Highway 36 in Washington County.

The crash was reported just before 12:45 p.m. at the highway’s intersection with FM 390.

DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz said preliminary information indicates a 2007 Peterbilt and a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe were traveling northbound on Highway 36.  Ruiz said as the Peterbilt slowed to make a right-hand turn onto FM 390, the Chevrolet failed to control its speed and struck the rear of the 18-wheeler.  The SUV caught fire after the impact.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 84-year-old Thomas Jarrell of Brenham, was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Brenham, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. 

The driver of the Peterbilt was also taken to Baylor Scott & White in Brenham with injuries believed to be minor.
