CUB FOOTBALL ROLLS TO A 59-16 WIN OVER EAST VIEW
The Brenham Cub Football Team improved to 2-0 on the season last (Thursday) night with dominating 59-16 victory over the Eastview Patriots at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
Jakoby Dixon got the offense started in the first quarter with a ten-yard touchdown run. Nate Rau ran in the two-point conversion to give Brenham an 8-0 lead with 8:15 to go in the first quarter.
It didn't take the Cubs long to add to that lead. C.J. Glover scored on a one-yard touchdown run out of the Wildcub (aka Wildcat formation), and Bleu Cienega added the extra point to make it 15-0 at the 7:26 mark.
The Patriots next drive did not last long as Brenham's Quincy Adams intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown. However, East View blocked Cienega's extra point attempt, and ran it back for the two-point conversion to make it 21-2 with 6:39 left in the first quarter.
The Cubs would find the end zone again as Roland Branch hit Jaden Nickerson on a 32-yard touchdown pass, Cienega kicked the PAT, and that gave Brenham a 28-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Ledrick Walker Jr. got the scoring started in the second quarter. For the second week in a row, he picked up a fumble, and ran it back for a touchdown. Cienega made the extra point, which increased the 35-2 with 8:52 left until the half.
Jakoby Dixon scored his second touchdown of the night on an 18-yard run, and Cienega kicked another extra point to give the Cubs a 42-2 lead at the 2:31 mark.
East View finally found the end zone. Jayvion Clayter ran one in from 23 yards out, and Cavan Gonzalez made the extra point to cut the Brenham advantage to 42-9 with 1:37 to go until halftime.
However, the Cubs were not done yet. Glover took the ensuing kickoff and ran it back 90 yards for a touchdown. Cienega's extra point would make it 49-9 with 1:17 left in the second quarter.
Due to the lopsided score, the decision was made at halftime to run the continuous clock for the second half.
Brenham would get their final two scores in the third quarter. Cienega kicked a 32-yard field goal at the 8:49 mark.
During the third quarter, Dixon broke off a 55-yard run. With that run, he surpassed Roosevelt Leaks for second place on the Cubs' all-time leading rushing yards list.
Then, came something you do not see very often. Branch threw a pass to Nate Rau, the pass bounced off of Rau, and happened to land in the hands of LT Nolan Reyes, and Reyes, known to his teammates as "Big Country", took it 24-yards to the end zone. Cienega added the extra point to make it 59-9 with 1:25 left to go in the third.
The Patriots would score one final time, when Clayter reached the end zone on a two-yard touchdown run. Gonzalez added the extra point to finish the scoring at 59-16 with 3:52 left in the game.
Next up, for the Cubs, they will be taking on new school Richmond Tomas in a first time ever game next Thursday at Traylor Stadium in Rosenberg. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
