BURTON-IOLA FOOTBALL GAME CANCELLED DUE TO LIGHTNING
The weather played havoc on some of area high school football games on Friday night.
The Burton Panthers and the Iola Bulldogs got their game started at Panther Stadium. They were in a scoreless tie with three minutes left in the first quarter when the weather came through. A lightning delay was issued.
After waiting for over an hour, the decision was made to cancel the rest of the non-district game.
Burton is off this coming week for the Washington County Fair.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 25, when they open up district on the road at Milano. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
Meanwhile, around the area, the La Grange-Geronimo Navarro game was also cancelled due to the weather. La Grange offered to play them on Saturday, but Navarro declined.
The Giddings-Smithville game was postponed due to lightning and a power outage at the stadium in Smithville. The game was moved to Saturday at 10am, and switched to Buffalo Stadium in Giddings.
