WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE TEMPORARY LOAN AGREEMENT WITH MUSEUM FOR TIME CAPSULE ITEMS

Washington County Commissioners agreed today (Tuesday) to partner with the Brenham Heritage Museum to put items from a time capsule on display at the museum.

Representatives from Baylor Scott & White join
Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday for a
proclamation recognizing the month of October as Paint
the Town Pink in the county.

The loan agreement will allow the museum to temporarily exhibit the historical documents and objects recovered from the 1939 time capsule found in the county courthouse and opened this past Tuesday.  The approval of the agreement is contingent upon review by the county attorney.

Brenham Heritage Museum Executive Director Ciera Harris said the museum is very excited to have this temporary exhibit for the contents of the time capsule and will work with the county and Washington County Historical Commission to make it happen.  She added that this will give anyone unable to attend last week’s time capsule ceremony the opportunity to view the items themselves.

Commissioner Misti Hartstack Corn asked whether the exhibit would be free of charge to the public, at least for some time, saying, “These things belong to the community, and I want to make sure that everybody has a chance to see that.”  Harris replied that the museum would be “happy to accommodate.”

The specific dates for the temporary exhibit have not been announced.

Also at today’s meeting, commissioners:

  • Approved an agreement with the Lower Colorado River Authority for a $37,567 grant to purchase a rescue boat for the Lake Somerville EMS station.
  • Approved a professional services agreement for health care services provided by Texas Tech University and Washington County EMS for the Burton – Southern Clinic.  EMS Compliance Chief Mark Rosenbaum said the agreement outlines which parties handle certain responsibilities at the clinic.
  • Tabled action on the use of shared office space at the Washington County Expo Annex building for Prairie View A&M University Community and Economic Development and Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agents.  The item was tabled to give commissioners more time to discuss the offices that may be utilizing the judicial center planned for construction.
  • Agreed to use opioid funds to purchase narcotic tracking software and equipment, totaling $5,370.
  • Directed the county auditor to conduct the annual audit of the asset seizure and forfeiture accounts of the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, pursuant to 590.06 (g) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
