COMMISSIONERS APPROVE PROPOSED SPEED LIMIT ON SOUTH BERLIN ROAD

Washington County Commissioners discussed and approved a petition that will set a 40 mile-per-hour speed limit on South Berlin Road at today’s (Tuesday) meeting.

After no one came forward to offer comment on the matter in public hearing, the Court discussed the petition, which was cross-referenced and signed by 75 percent of landowners in the area.

According to Commissioner Kirk Hanath, South Berlin Road was seeing increased traffic from commuters looking to bypass highway traffic from Old Mill Creek Road to Highway 290.  The commissioners agreed that no speed limit was dangerous, and that 40 miles-per-hour was a reasonable limit.

The Court also passed an inter-local agreement between the county and Brazos Valley Council of Government, for COGNet broadband internet services.  Commissioner Hanath said this essentially made official what had already been going on.  The Court hopes to extend services into Chappell Hill soon.

In other items, the Court approved a variance request for private land near Lorena Lane.  A total of 64 acres are being divided into 3 different lots, with access through an established easement.
