CELEBRATIONS ALL AROUND FOR FOURTH OF JULY TODAY

  

Washington County and surrounding areas have no shortage of Independence Day celebrations planned for today (Wednesday).

Chappell Hill’s annual Fourth of July parade starts at 10 a.m., with live coverage from Holly Ryder on KWHI and kwhi.com.

This year’s Grand Marshals are Louis and Joycine Hanath of Chappell Hill.  The Patriot Guard and the Washington County EMS Honor Guard will take part in opening ceremonies.

The Chappell Hill Chamber’s 2017 Man of the Year, Aaron Griffith, will serve as this year’s “Official Parade Gunner,” in place of Washington County Precinct 2 Constable Butch and Betsy Faske.

The World Famous Marching Kazoo Band will be making their annual appearance, with all kids invited to join the kazoo band.  All area veterans are invited to ride in the designated Veterans Floats.  A Cool Rods Car Show will immediately follow the parade.

In Round Top, the oldest continuing Fourth of July celebration west of the Mississippi, at 168 years, kicks off with the firing of the Civil War cannon and the annual parade at 10:30 a.m. on the Town Square.

The Round Top Rifle Association will be serving barbecue brisket, pork, and sausage, and there will be music, fun, and games throughout the day.  Entertainment will be provided by the Round Top Brass Band.

In Burton, the American Legion is hosting its 127th Annual Pork and Beef Barbecue Picnic at the Burton Community Center.  Meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with live and silent auctions until 2 p.m., Bingo from 1 to 5 p.m., and a cake walk at noon.

Cactus Ken Murray will be broadcasting live from Round Top and Burton in the KTEX Country Cruiser.

Kenney Agricultural Hall is celebrating its 116th year of activities, serving beef, pork, and mutton from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  There will be a cake walk at 10:30 a.m., a live auction at 1 p.m., and a free bouncy house and petting zoo.

Navasota will be hosting the Independence Daze and Fourth of July Parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Prosperity Bank and ending at the Navasota Center.  Free food and activities will be offered there, with the swimming pool open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Independence’s annual celebration gets underway at 1 p.m. with a trail ride, followed by live music from Steven Marshall at 3 p.m.  The Red, White and Blue Water Balloon Fight starts at 3:30 p.m., and the parade begins at 5 p.m.

A street dance starts at 5:30 p.m., with live music from the Risky Liver band.  The evening concludes with a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m.  Blake will be there broadcasting on KTEX-106.

Hermann Sons Life of Deanville is hosting its 105th annual celebration at the Deanville Hall, with the Kopecky Polka Band performing from 1 to 5 p.m.  Barbecue pork, beef, and chicken will be served, and there will also be Bingo, bounce houses, a country store and sweet shop.

The Giddings Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a celebration from 5 to 7 p.m.  Barbecue and live music will be offered, along with a fireworks display.  Trail Boss Troy will broadcasting live from the KTEX Country Cruiser.
