I-45 UNDERGOING LANE SHIFTS THIS EVENING
Northbound I-45 traffic near FM 1375 in Walker County will begin shifting into newly constructed lanes, starting this (Friday) evening.
Traffic will be moved from the existing northbound lanes into the new lanes in the median, beginning at 8 p.m. Traffic will travel on the middle part of the new bridge overpass on FM 1374, while traffic entering I-45 northbound—north of FM 1374—will merge into the median at the current location.
Traffic will remain in this location until current northbound lanes are constructed into three lanes of pavement. Speed limits will be reduced to 65 miles-per-hour around the area of the project.
I-45 is being reconstructed to pass over local roads in order to increase safety, by reducing interference with traffic due to bridge maintenance. The end goal is to replace the existing four-lane highway with six lanes, with a concrete median in southern Walker County. The project is expected to be completed by September 2021.
